Adding New Wine Records

Step 1: Add a New Wine Record

Creating a new wine record is easy to do. From either the Wine List or Wine Detail layouts click the "New Record" button to create a new wine record.

Step 2: Import Wine Data From the Wine Library

My Wine Collection 2.0 comes with a wine library of over 2,500 US wineries to make entering your wine fast and easy. The process of importing wine data is easy.

To do so...

1. Go to the Wine Library section, click the red drop down button for the Wine Library drop down menu and type the first letter of the winery you wish to import.

2. From the list select the winery name, varietal combo for your wine and click the "Import" button.

3. The Winery Name, Classification, Varietal, Country, Region, Appellation, Winery Web Site, Serving Glass, Serving Temperature and Food Pairing data available for that wine will be automatically imported.

Note: If a wine or winery does not exist in the wine library skip to step 3 to manually fill in all data for that wine.

Step 3: Enter Remaining Wine Data

Once you have imported all available wine data from the wine library, enter any additional information for that wine that was not automatically entered.

In this version the following fields require that you enter your own data.

1. Vintage
2. Bottle Size
3. Storage Location and Coordinates
4. Quantity
5. Cost
6. Value
7. Rating/Rating Method
8. General Comments
9. Label if not available
10. Tasting Notes

Note: If a wine or winery does not exist in the wine library, manually fill in all data for that wine by starting at Winery Name and working your way down. Note that if you are choosing from the varietal drop down then the Serving Glass, Serving Temperature and Food Pairing data available for that varietal will be automatically entered.

Step 4: Importing a Wine Label or Photo

To add wine labels or photos of the wine:

1. Click the image container or the "View/Import" button located under the label "Wine Label" in the Detail section.

2. Once at the large image view select the "Import" button to import an image file or select the "Paste" button to paste an image that is on your computers clipboard.

3. Repeat this for up to 3 images.

NOTE: There is a 2GB total file size limit for images in this software. What this means is that you cannot import more then 2GB (or 2000 MB) worth of images into the database. That is 2000 1MB (Hi Resolution) files or 10,000 200K (Low Resolution) files. To avoid running into this size limit, import only low resolution files (roughly 4in x 5in 72dpi or 200k per file) doing so will allow you to have ample room for your collection.

If you feel that you will run into this size limit for images, you may choose the option to “Store only a reference to the file” when importing an image. This option is located at the lower left hand corner of the import file dialog box when selecting the “Import” button. This option allows you to create a link to the image and not add to your total file size. This will allow you to reference an unlimited amount of images. The viewing results are the same in either option. However to use this option you must not delete the original image file from your computer. The original image file must remain on your computer so that when viewing an image the software can find and display it.

Tips for referencing images:
1. Create a folder that will hold all of the image files. Do not create sub folders for the images. (This will make it easy for you to update the links if you need to move the software to another computer.)
2. Leave the folder where it was originally located on your computer.
3. Do NOT delete the original image files from your hard drive.
4. If you need to move My Wine Collection to another computer, move the software files AND the image folder. When moved if you receive an error in the image window and the image cannot be displayed, re-import the first image as a reference, and the rest should automatically be updated for you.
